Day #0

Back from the dead! I thought about coming back to doing this blog for an hour and here I am!
What I decided to do was blog about my time coaching youth sports.
This season coming up I will be coaching Football (starts tomorrow.) I am coaching my son's Jr. pee wee (10-12 yr old) team for the second year. Last year was a total learning experience. Seeing how I never played or coached organized football EVER, but this was fine I was learning the ropes from 2 accomplished coaches. This year is a little different. I am "in charge" of the defense. This may be something myself and the other coaches regret. I don't think I am ready, but I relish in the challenge of it. I figured if I stayed one step ahead of the kids last year I would be fine with the other coaches being able to cover my learning process. Now to lead these young impressionable children seems like a daunting feat. I am nervous maybe even a little scared. I will not let them know this, that would be my downfall. I am going into this knowing I can do well getting these kids to learn and understand what I am teaching them.
Time for some back story. I have to this point in my life coached or helped to coach soccer, baseball, wrestling, and football. Each of these involved one or both of my sons. All of the sports I did not intend to coach at all. I was asked to help in all. Two of them by the head coach, one of them by an assistant whom I coached another sport with and the final one I helped only because the head coach walked out on us (the whole team.) I have enjoyed all of my time coaching. Made new friends both parents and kids as well as fellow coaches. At this point I feel like I will continue even after my kids have finished their youth sports.
I want to say that I am coaching with almost all the same football coaches as last year and in no way do I feel like they are going to hang me out to dry. We will work as a team as much as the kids will work together. If not, well I don't think I even need to elaborate on that subject. We as coaches feel good going into tomorrow's first practice. We had a few meetings and the team orientation so far and all seemed to go well. Here is hoping everything else follows form.
