Wait...Really?

Hello Everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I was getting ready for a vacation, than took it with the family. We went to D.C. and it was a really fun time for all of us. What concerns me is I was taunted by a person I didn't know. I would normally just shrug it off, but I was giving him help on finding something there. Here is what happened. The family and I had just stopped to figure out which way was the best way to go to get in some sight seeing of the monuments. A man was there next to us with his 2 sons and where also trying to find stuff in the city. They happened to be looking to purchase some ice cream. I over heard him having trouble with his phone registering his voice command. So I grabbed my book and pointed out 3 different locations with in about 5 blocks from where we were on the map. Feel free to insert fat joke here. He responded "Whoa a map in a book. Look how prepared you are, and with a book." What an ass! Not only did my trusty tourist book bail you out. I was kind enough to help. It is a good thing I was opposed to certain technology for so long and learned how to read and do fundamental things when I was younger. BTW he looked to be older than me and too reliant on his tech gear. I'm just spitballing here, but we as a society rely on our gadgets way too much. Now to go and do some research on the computer.

TMI

Hello Everyone,
With all the access we have to each other, when is enough, enough? I'm just spitballing here, but i think we may be stretching ourselves too thin. What I mean is with the constant contact (i.e. facebook, twitter, blogs) we have no escape. I up until about 5 months ago did none of this. No facebook, no twitter, no blog, and no podcast. I don't enjoy all of these things, but I do enjoy others. I was highly against all of these things before we started podcasting, but it is almost a necessary evil to do some for "promotion." I didn't want everyone to know everything I did. I know you can limit what you share with your "friends" and lookers on. What I want to know is, why people feel the need to share everything? Sharing with people is great, but we may just start to run out of secrets. What are we going to talk about once we share everything? Mundane daily chores which is kind of what these social sites are being reduced to. Boring! Maybe we just need more people to become a little more creative with what they talk about or maybe we can share things that people may want to talk about. Maybe we should just step away from some of our social networks and actually go out and talk to someone face to face. Or we could just hold off on sharing the fact that we are taking the kids to the doctor's. I don't have the answer. I just have questions.

Fall

Hello Everyone,
It's Autumn again and that is fantastic. I'm just spitballing here, but I believe that this is by far the best time of year. From a slight drop in temperature to all the good sports starting up to being able to put the kids back in school. These are just some of the things I look forward to every year. I never really understood why I wanted this time of year to be around more so than the other seasons. I wanted to think it was just the sports when I was younger, but it seems people as a whole are generally in a better mood. Yes the kids are not as happy when school comes around (except mine), but who cares about them. Could it be the fact that people don't usually have to deal with terrible weather? Could it be the color changes in the trees that mellow people? Might it have something to do with the fact that football is here or basketball and hockey are starting a new season? I want to think it has a bit of all this wrapped up into a nice little package. Yes i know that summer is a good beach time and spring brings you out of the drab of winter and even winter has the holidays, but give me the fall. I want everything that fall has to bring. Even the stupid pumpkin flavored coffee. Give me Halloween, give me a few leaves on the ground, and give me the fall sports. Fall its not just the end of summer anymore...

Fantasy Sports

Hello everyone,
I enjoy fantasy sports more than I should, with this being said my fear for this year is here this weekend. I am playing my 10 year old son in fantasy football. It is his first year playing. I'm just spitballing here, but there is no possible way for me to win. Say I do "win" the game, I feel a little bad having to beat a 10 yr. old which happens to live in the same house as myself. If I "lose" I will lose more than just the game I will lose face (all family league) and most importantly pride. As bad as that sounds, it is completely true and slightly depressing. For this reason I say that I enjoy fantasy sports too much. I want to win (overly competitive), but at the expense of my first born? Hell yeah!!! I want to pound him into oblivion. Sign me up for all that comes along with beating a small child in a competitive environment. When this week is over I get to play against my wife. All the same rules apply, but I will feel WAY better beating her worse than my son. BRING IT ON IMMEDIATE FAMILY!!!!!!

Why do we care?

Hello everyone,
When did we as a society become so involved with celebrity news becoming news? I'm just spitballing here, but news outlets are running out of "real" news. This is why we have to get our Lindsey Lohan news before we get to anything remotely interesting. I believe because we have so many news outlets now our intake of the news has to be increased to include celebrity news. My question to this is why? Why not just give us a broader look at the world instead of gossiping over baby "bumps?" I personally don't care about celebrity news. I do however care when Yahoo's home page (as an example) is covered in it. I like to get my news from said site, but would prefer not to have to wade through a mountain of celeb trash to get to anything relevant. I understand why they do it. This type of news sells to the public, and well cash rules everything around me...dollar dollar bill y'all. All I ask is that celebrity news stay on the E! site and not flow over into my reputable news sources.

Put it away

The recent controversy with Brett Favre and his genitalia have made me think and I'm just spitballing here. Maybe having some shame isn't all that bad. I know since cell phones could start taking pictures we have had a rash of high profile men photographing their junk. I have to ask, have you people not learned that this will get out there? Seriously if you want to show it off that badly go into porn. There are many a site that would love to have you on there just for traffic to their site. I understand you are proud of what you have and that is great, but please have a little common sense. Why wouldn't that women (or man) not try to capitalize on the fame or infamy of having a famous persons privates in picture form. What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to blackmail yourself by giving a person the item they would need to blackmail you? Is this the way of going about getting that certain someone to notice you? You are friggin' rich! They already noticed your bank roll before you even got to meet them. You don't have to do this. I implore you please think with your head before snapping that photo...and use the head that is on television.

Here we go

Over the past few days I have given you the reason why I podcast. I gave a little background to myself and that we are very green to this whole process. With this being said I am now going to try to show examples of our podcasting style over the duration of this blog. Hopefully I can flush out my own thoughts and ideas with this blog as a tool, b/c in no way shape or form am I a writer. Like the title says....

I'm just spitballing here but, the education institutions do not teach enough truths about the history of the world. Case in point today which is Columbus day here in the states. Now what I was taught was that Christopher Columbus sailed here by mistake. Which is true, he was trying to find a new way to India for spices or so I was taught. I was also taught he was the first to land on American soil. Not true, there were many before him the Vikings is just one example. The second part of him landing on American soil is also false. He never even stepped foot on North America. What he did do was locate the Bahamas, Cuba and Central America. Which that alone is a great feat considering people were afraid to sail past the horizon which they believed would have them fall off the edge of the Earth. So, my question is why not just tell us the exact truth to what he and his crew did? It obviously was no small accomplishment to discover this new land and new resources. I feel a little robbed as to my education when I was a child and being a father of 3 I hope they just get the truth.

This would be a small outline of how we would go about getting  the podcast flowing. Chris(co-host) and myself would then add in what we find amusing to go along with this topic and branch off of the original topic to include similar ideas and possibly add in something that has nothing to do with it to further the conversation. Going forward with this blog I will be posting ideas and maybe some rants that may be included in the podcast.

topics

Hello again, I would like to talk about topics. I would have to say this is the most enjoyable part of the podcast as well as the most difficult. Our podcast does not focus in on one niche subject, so we must try to be informative and entertaining at the same time. This is not easy!! We like to talk about what we know and like to discuss between ourselves. So what do we know? I would have to say not as much as I would like. Which entails a lot of research to go along with my knowledge of each subject. As I research I also like to add something I find amusing and hope others do too. Which can be tricky, so its a good thing that I only really judge if its funny on how Chris reacts to what I am talking about. Thankfully he laughs a lot at my brand of humor. Maybe he is just really laughing at me! As far as coming up with topics, I think that may be where we do the most "spitballing." Just bouncing topics off each other and coming up with ways to do our form of entertaining. Now that is a scary thing. We are always looking for topics, so if you have suggestion we will gladly try to figure out a way we can discuss it on the podcast. Hopefully we can take what you offered and turn it into something that is close to what you want to hear. If we don't well we just "spitballed" it to our liking.

Music

I am a big fan of music in general. I don't like to be labeled with a type that I enjoy, but I can tell you country, and christian rock are not on my Ipod, so to speak. People would call me eclectic when it comes to my taste in music. Which is why Chris (cousin and co-host if you aren't keeping score at home) and myself have started to feature bands on our podcast. We try not to discuss it too much because it is kind of a touchy subject with people. Sort of like religion and politics and sex with bosses twice your age...yeah. Any who back to music, I do have a favorite band and they are called Guster. With no planning by me their newest album came out this past tuesday.  http://www.guster.com/ With all this said, we would like to have people give us music so we can feature more bands. We just want to cross promo with the bands. No money transactions at all, just a cross promotion between listening audiences. All we would need is a playable mp3 and info about the band. Thats it, so flipping easy. Send any questions or mp3's to spitballcast@gmail.com

Basics

I know I didn't really say much about myself yesterday, but I made my point. I am a husband, a father of 3 (b10, b7, g5). I am a postal worker (carrier), and I have a few hobbies. Those would be video games, watching my oldest play football, and now Podcasting and all the things I try to do to promote it. I also follow sports. Teams would include NY Giants in football, Celtics and Bruins. Those would be my basics, of course I haven't said all but I have to have something for tomorrow right? My ultimate goal with this blog is to share myself with whomever comes here and reads what I type. I want people to know me so they can understand what we are trying to do with the podcast. When you guys figure that out let us know so we can make it better. Hopefully we get it b/4 you guys do....kidding I think.

podcasting and what I swore I would never do...oops

Hello, I decided to start a blog to help further along my podcast (spitballing). I am only half of the equation to this problem, I mean podcast. What I mean is i can't believe I am here typing this as I swore I would never start a blog. My cousin/ co-host asked me to do a podcast months ago, and I thought it was a great idea. Well it is. Except I have turned it into a hobby of epic proportions. Which leads me to this, starting a blog to promote the podcast as well as flush out ideas for topics on said podcast. Hopefully someone out there will read this blog and spread the word, as well as give feedback to this project we have started. I admit it is loads of fun and enough of a challenge to keep me busy, so I guess all I can say is Thank you Chris for everything.
